Camp Policies and Procedures
In order to ensure your child has the most enjoyable experience, we have put together a list of our policies and procedures to set expectations for a successful camp.
Need more info? Here are the details:
What to wear and bring
As with all art, things are bound to get a little messy. We ask that your child wear appropriate clothing and footwear that can get dirty. We do recommend sneakers and no open-toed shoes. Most clay and glaze materials will wash out of clothing, and we do provide aprons for children who are worried about getting their clothes stained.
If your child has specific requirements, please contact heidi@sunshinestudiotn.com to discuss ADA or other accommodations to ensure we can adequately meet their needs.
Drop-off and pick-up
Parents and caregivers should drop off and pick up their children in the gym at the Millersville Community Center. Please call/text (615-598-1675) if the camper will be arriving more than 15 minutes late or is not able to attend camp.
Please do not bring your camper more than five minutes before camp begins at 9am, unless you have purchased an early arrival pass.
Please pick-up your child promptly at the end of camp, which is no later than 12:05pm for morning camp or 4:05pm for afternoon/full-day camp. Extended pick-up is not available without the purchase of a late pick-up pass. Campers picked up later than 12:10pm for morning camp or 4:10pm for afternoon camp/full-day will be charged for late pick-up. Please call/text (615-598-1675) if you are running late for pick-up.
Note: There is free parking available at the community center where you may wait to drop off or pick up your camper.
Check-in and checkout
All campers must be signed in and out by a designated adult. Campers will only be released to the adult(s) listed on their emergency contact form.
Snacks and lunch breaks
For half-day and full-day campers, we will take breaks throughout the course of the day, including a 10 minute snack break. Make sure to pack a snack and beverage for your child and label the bag and bottle with their full name.
For full-day campers, lunch will be provided between 12-1pm for each day of camp. Parents and caregivers will be provided with the lunch schedule for each day of camp. You will be asked to specify your camper’s dietary restrictions and known allergies in the emergency contact form after registering to ensure the safety of all those attending camp. Parents and caregivers may send lunch boxes with their child, which will be collected and stored by a staff member.
Completed projects
The ceramic process requires multiple steps including drying and firing in a kiln. This aftercare means your camper’s projects will take approximately two weeks to be completed after the camp has ended. Sunshine Studio will email you when projects are ready for pick up. Please also note that:
-
Class time will include time for clean-up, which is an integral part of the pottery making.
-
Your children will be encouraged to create several pieces during camp. You can anticipate your child having 5 -10 completed pieces.
-
All materials and firing are included in the cost of camp.
-
Due to the fragile nature of clay and the firing process, work can sometimes get damaged caused by construction issues or the firing or glazing processes.
Camp payment policy
In terms of our payment policy, please note the following:
-
Tuition is due in full at time of registration.
-
All camp confirmations are sent once camp has enough students to run or no later than 14 days prior to the start of camp.
-
Camps with insufficient enrollment will be cancelled and payment fully refunded.
-
No refunds are issued for cancellations made within 14 days of the first day of camp.
-
There are no refunds or pro-rating options for missed camp.
-
Tuition includes all clay, tools and firing.
Photography during camp
We often take photos during camp for promotional and educational use. We do not disclose any personal information such as the name or age of the children. You will be asked for photo permission as part of the emergency contact form sent after registering.
